A Worst-Case Analysis of Constraint-Based Algorithms for Exact Multi-objective Combinatorial Optimization

چکیده
In a multi-objective combinatorial optimization (MOCO) problem, multiple objectives must be optimized simultaneously. In past years, several constraint-based algorithms have been proposed for finding Pareto-optimal solutions to MOCO problems that rely on repeated calls to a constraint solver. Understanding the properties of these algorithms and analyzing their performance is an important problem. Previous work has focused on empirical evaluations on benchmark instances. Such evaluations, while important, have their limitations. Our paper adopts a different, purely theoretical approach, which is based on characterizing the search space into subspaces and analyzing the worst-case performance of a MOCO algorithm in terms of the expected number of calls to the underlying constraint solver. We apply the approach to two important constraint-based MOCO algorithms. Our analysis reveals a deep connection between the search mechanism of a constraint solver and the exploration of the search space of a MOCO problem.

Solving a New Multi-objective Inventory-Routing Problem by a Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm
This paper considers a multi-period, multi-product inventory-routing problem in a two-level supply chain consisting of a distributor and a set of customers. This problem is modeled with the aim of minimizing bi-objectives, namely the total system cost (including startup, distribution and maintenance costs) and risk-based transportation. Products are delivered to customers by some heterogeneous ...
متن کاملSelecting Efficient Service-providers in Electric Power Distribution Industry Using Combinatorial Reverse Auction
In this paper, a combinatorial reverse auction mechanism is proposed for selecting the most efficient service-providers for resolving sustained power interruptions in multiple regions of an electric power distribution company’s responsibility area. Through this mechanism, supplying the required service in each region is assigned to only one potential service-provider considering two criteria in...
متن کاملA Bi-objective Stochastic Optimization Model for Humanitarian Relief Chain by Using Evolutionary Algorithms
Due to the increasing amount of natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods and unnatural disasters such as war and terrorist attacks, Humanitarian Relief Chain (HRC) is taken into consideration of most countries. Besides, this paper aims to contribute humanitarian relief chains under uncertainty. In this paper, we address a humanitarian logistics network design problem including local dis...
متن کاملThe Guided Improvement Algorithm for Exact, General-Purpose, Many-Objective Combinatorial Optimization
This paper presents a new general-purpose algorithm for exact solving of combinatorial many-objective optimization problems. We call this new algorithm the guided improvement algorithm . The algorithm is implemented on top of the non-optimizing relational constraint solver Kodkod [24]. We compare the performance of this new algorithm against two algorithms from the literature (Gavanelli [11], L...
متن کاملExploring the Runtime of an Evolutionary Algorithm for the Multi-Objective Shortest Path Problem
We present a natural vector-valued fitness function f for the multi-objective shortest path problem, which is a fundamental multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem known to be NP-hard. Interestingly, this simple general algorithm is a fully polynomial-time randomized approximation...
